Records of the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System, 1932 - 2000.

The overwhelming majority of the records from KPERS are currently grouped as a single series of litigation files. These records come from a major sequence of lawsuits started in the early 1990s involving KPERS as the plaintiff against a number of investment firms, financial institutions, and other companies in which KPERS invested heavily or which KPERS entrusted to place investments. Those investments that seemed to be losing more money than would be considered typical in normal business practice were targeted in these lawsuits, due to concerns over potentially illegal or unethical business practices. While the majority of these records are open to the public, some information is restricted. Other KPERS records held by the State Archives include files pertaining to individual covered State employees and retirees (access restricted); reports to the state legislature and the public; policies and procedures manuals; historical, subject, and investment files; and financial records.
